Sewing

Welcome to Snowdrops & Honey!

Hey! I wish you could see my happy dance. I am so excited to launch my blog and share my sewing and knitting journey with you. Take a moment to follow me on Instagram @snowdropsandhoney. I hope you find inspiration for your next project through this blog.

I absolutely love the process of transforming fabric and fiber into beautiful works of art. Finding the perfect pattern, gathering notions, and setting up my design space brings me complete joy. When I am focused on a project, even if it is challenging, I notice a positive shift overall. I can think clearly. I am relaxed and centered. Knitting and sewing provides me an opportunity to reboot and become rejuvenated.

At twelve years old, I had my first sewing lesson. After trying my hand at a few beginner projects, I stopped sewing after only a few months. My desire to sew didn’t peak again until I was in my late-20s. Shopping for ready to wear clothes became a challenge. The fit of my dresses and separates were not as flattering. I noticed that they were baggy in the wrong places or too tight in others. My other challenge was finding a unique look. The entire process was extremely stressful. I started to think about making tailored pieces. In my head, I was an experienced dressmaker. I mean, why not? I come from a line of talented sewists and designers. This was in my DNA, right? Well, not exactly. After a few botched projects, I realized that I had a lot to learn.

I decided to take my time and study. Learning pattern by pattern and researching fabric, notions, sewing machine upkeep, and different techniques for each project. While I have gained so much knowledge, I will always be a student of the craft and I am open to learning more.

During the height of the pandemic, I tried my hand at knitting. Full disclosure, I actually learned to teach someone near and dear to my heart that had an interest. With so many yarn and pattern options, knitting has quickly become one of my favorites hobbies. Also, I like that I can knit anywhere. Well, as long as it’s quiet enough for me to count my stitches and rows without interruption.

Overall, my journey has been more of a rebirth, like snowdrops in late winter, and the rewards are as sweet as honey!

I hope you enjoy this blog and come back often to see what’s new. I’ll share my inspiration for sewing and knitting projects, pattern reviews, tips and tricks for different techniques, and of course my lessons learned. Let’s stay connected. Follow me on Instagram @snowdropsandhoney.
